At Greenwood Building Materials (GBM®), we believe that true sustainability begins at home. The Green Vault is our statewide recycling initiative designed to divert hard-to-recycle materials—such as expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam™), glass, and industrial aggregates—away from landfills and transform them directly into affordable, high-performance building supplies.
Through the Green Vault program, Georgia's waste is re-engineered into energy-efficient Insulated Composite Concrete Form (ICCF) Blocks.
How the Green Vault Works

Collected materials are processed using our proprietary methods. EPS foam is shredded and combined into ICCF blocks, while post-consumer glass is converted into sustainable drainage aggregates. - Building Generational Wealth
Upcycled materials are supplied directly to local housing developments, including our Housing Revolution Tour initiatives, drastically lowering construction costs and creating local green jobs.

What items are accepted in the Green Vault program?
We accept clean Expanded Polystyrene (EPS/Styrofoam™) packaging, coolers, and insulation boards, as well as post-consumer glass (bottles and jars) and clean industrial concrete byproducts. All items must be free of heavy food residue, tape, or metal attachments.
2. How is recycled Styrofoam turned into building materials?
Collected EPS foam is thoroughly sanitized, shredded, and integrated into our proprietary Insulated Composite Concrete Form (ICCF) Blocks. This upcycling process diverts non-biodegradable waste from Georgia landfills while creating high-performance, energy-efficient building blocks.

EPS/Styrofoam creates Jobs for the next 500 Years!
Every year, millions of tons of expanded polystyrene (EPS/Styrofoam™) are discarded worldwide, with the vast majority ending up directly in landfills or waterways:
- United States: Approximately 2.3 million tons (over 5 billion pounds) of EPS and polystyrene products are sent to U.S. landfills and waterways each year. On average, Americans dump around 1,360 to 1,500 tons of polystyrene into landfills daily.
- Global Impact: Worldwide, over 14 million to 29 million tons of polystyrene are produced annually, with roughly 80% ending up buried in landfills or polluting ecosystems.
- Landfill Volume: Because EPS is up to 95% air, it takes up an outsized amount of space—accounting for 25% to 30% of total landfill volume relative to its weight.
- Recycling Rate: Less than 1% of EPS is recycled in the U.S., largely due to the high logistical cost of transporting light, bulky waste to specialized recycling facilities.
